Frank declares Victory #1!! Just eleven days after a double lung transplant, Frank was discharged today! Oh, the power of prayers!! We are all back in the Durham apartment tonight, watching his beloved Red Sox! Tomorrow, he will go back to rehab for six weeks, with many clinic assessments along the way to make sure his body continues to be friendly to these new lungs. He will have to limit his exposure and stay here close to Duke for the next few months. But WOW, right?

Saturday Update on Frank Frank continues to campaign for official designation as Poster Boy for Duke's Lung Transplant Program! Yesterday, he was discharged from the ICU and is in what they call Step Down, where he will remain until discharge in a few weeks from the hospital. Each day brings new and amazing progress. We know that challenges lie ahead because that is part of the lung transplant terrain for the rest of Frank's life. Frank and all of us feel so lifted up by your love and prayers. He says that he knows your prayers are what has brought him this far! Keep 'em coming!! <3

Update on Frank In the wee hours of the morning, Frank opened his eyes after receiving a new set of lungs yesterday! A few hours later, they removed the breathing tube from his mouth and throat. He is still using a little oxygen, but they will begin to wean him off that as his new lungs kick in. It keeps getting better. Many of you know that Frank has been Rocky Balboa at the Duke rehab center all summer, getting in tip top shape for this surgery. It paid off big time because late this morning he walked 2 laps around the ICU unit . . . 800 feet! All the nurses on the floor were cheering him on! He will walk again this afternoon and tomorrow will attempt to ace the swallowing test. He thanks all of you so much for your prayers and support!!

Frank is out of surgery and doing well so far!
